Our PE Curriculum nurtures physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development, offering a well-rounded experience across all Key Stages.

Intent

Our curriculum intends to provide a board and enriching experience for students to develop as well rounded individuals who will be given opportunities to be active, experience success and enjoyment, while learning and developing cognitive ability, physical skills, and social and emotional growth.

Implementation

By following the curriculum map, unit outcomes, and using the lesson planning document, along with high level delivery from staff who will support teachers, students will progress through a variety of skills and experiences. This curriculum map is designed to be flexible and adjustable, allowing schools to either deliver one or two topics per half term.

Impact

Through formative assessment methods and the use of our pupil assessment tracker, the impact can be tracked during and after unit delivery. If you have a KSG coach delivering PE, then KSG management staff are responsible for ensuring lessons are being effectively delivered through our Continuous Quality Improvement Plan.

The KSG Way

Each Unit of Work has 10 Learning Objectives across 3 categories, ensuring progression through Key Stages and alignment with OFSTED’s 3 Pillars of Progression.

Know

Within KNOW, there are three objectives per unit, with an emphasis on Rules, Strategies and Tactics. These objectives contribute towards a students declarative and procedural knowledge of a sport or skill, a framework that ensures a progressive development of understanding.

Show

Within SHOW, each unit includes two objectives focused on developing motor competence. These objectives enhance students’ physical skills and coordination across various sports. The SHOW framework ensures gradual development, building a strong foundation in physical performance.

Grow

Within GROW, each unit includes two objectives focused on the Affective Domain, emphasising healthy participation, and helping students build strong personal skills. The GROW framework nurtures emotional intelligence and positive social interaction, supporting well-rounded development.

All our lessons are based on the ABC'S

A

Active

PE lessons should prioritize activity, especially in today’s sedentary society where screen time and inactivity are common. Active lessons improve physical fitness, mental well-being, and focus, helping students develop lifelong healthy habits.

B

Broadening Knowledge

PE lessons should provide opportunities to develop knowledge that isn’t covered elsewhere in the curriculum. This includes important skills like teamwork, leadership, and resilience, which are essential for personal growth and overall development.

C

Character Building

PE lessons should offer opportunities for character building, helping students develop both interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. These lessons foster qualities like teamwork, self-awareness, and resilience, which are vital for personal growth.

S

Skill Development

PE lessons should focus on enhancing physical skills and competence, helping students develop coordination, strength, and agility to improve overall athletic performance and confidence.
